Thomas Wayne Hewell, age 77 of Hillsboro, was born in Murfreesboro, TN to the late William Thomas Jr. and Frances Lorelle McCormick Hewell, on March 19, 1945. He proudly served his country through the Vietnam war and retired from the United States Army after 22 years. Mr. Hewell was a LPN after 25 years. He worked as a truck driver, police officer, pastor, coach, mail delivery driver, had his pilot’s license, and many other jobs over his life. Mr. Hewell was a pastor and member of Peoples Pentecostal Church for over 30 years. He was a member of the Manchester VFW, the Disabled Veterans American Legion, the American Legion Riders, and a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed watching the SEC football league, especially the TN Vols, and he liked the TN Titans, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially events and activities with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Hewell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Reba Johnson Hewell; children, Michael Thomas Hewell and his wife, Donna of Smithville, TN, and Tammy Joyce Shelnutt, and her husband, Joe of Covington, GA; grandchildren, Amber Lovelace (Johnny), Tyler Looper (Chelsea), Michael Shelnutt (Diana), Ashley Lickliter (Chris), Lee Shelnutt (Alexandrea), Steven Tidrick (Jessica); great grandchildren, Walker, Lincoln, Oliver, Franklynn, Charlie, Tate, and several other great grandchildren; brother, William Ted Hewell (Brenda) and sister, Charlotte Denise Hewell; along with extended family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Hewell will be conducted on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 2 PM in the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, with pastor, Kenneth Hale officiating. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, from 3 – 8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Hewell passed away on Sunday, January 8 at Southern TN Regional Medical Center in Winchester after an extended battle with IPF.
