Mrs. Reba Joyce Hewell, age 78 of Hillsboro, was born on November 10, 1944, in Murfreesboro, TN, to the late Glasco Roosevelt and Ida Lou Johnson. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Riders. Mrs. Reba enjoyed cooking, sewing, flowers, and taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the pastor’s wife, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Peoples Pentecostal Church for over 25 years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reba is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Wayne Hewell, who passed away on January 8, 2023; brother, Kenneth Johnson; grandson, Shannon Taylor; and brother-in-law, Walter Smith. She is survived by her children, Tammy Joyce Shelnutt and her husband, Joe, and Michael Thomas Hewell and his wife, Donna; grandchildren, Amber (Johnny) Lovelace, Tyler (Chelsea) Looper, Michael (Diana) Shelnutt, Ashley (Chris) Lickliter, Lee (Alexandra) Shelnutt, Steven (Jessica) Tidrick, Michelle Taylor, and Shannon Taylor; great grandchildren, Walker, Lincoln, Oliver, Franklynn, Charlie, Tate, and several other great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Crabtree and Hazel Smith; several extended family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Reba will be conducted on Monday, January 30, at 12 Noon at Coffee County Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Kenneth Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 29, from 4 – 8 PM and again from 10 AM until time of service on Monday. Mrs. Reba passed away at her home on Thursday after an extended illness.
