Hubert Patterson Jones

Mr. Hubert P. Jones, fondly known as “Papa” by his family, was born on July 22, 1936, in Manchester, TN, to the late Lawrence P. and Daisy Cornelison Jones. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army for 20 years then in the TN National Guard for 8 years, before his retirement in 1996. In continuing his commitment to service, Hubert was chief deputy for the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department with some of the finest sheriffs of Coffee County. He was also employed as a police officer for AEDC. Hubert was a member of the Highland 214 Masons, the American Legion, the local VFW, and the Al Menah Shriners, and he was a member of the Hwy 53 Non-denominational House of Prayer. Hubert was a people watcher, and a bird watcher, he enjoyed joy riding, especially in the rain or snow, he was a trickster and a jokester, especially to the neighborhood kids. Family describe Hubert as a “5 Minute Man”, because he loved to visit, but he didn’t stay long.

In addition to his parents, Hubert is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lena Floyd Jones, who passed away in 2001; sons, Keith Jones and Kennithe Jones; daughter, Cindy Jones; brother-in-law, James Shannon. He is survived by his daughters, Lana Vance (Roger), and Cinthey Jones; grandchildren, James H Carrick, Ashley (Brent) Carlton, Cody (Cassie) Lendley, ad Abi-Gail (Tyler) Jernigan; great grandchildren, Sawyer and Lena Carrick, Brenley, Brooklyn, and Briley Carlton, and Arabella, Elias, and Gideon Lendley; siblings, Wilburn (Karen) Jones, James (Carol) Jones, Dennis (Pam) Jones, Novella (Floyd) Tuck, Rosie Shannon, and Margie (Dennis) Schermerhorn; along with Tonks “Fido”, the family dog; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Hubert will be conducted on Sunday, January 29, at 1 PM in the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Tyler Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Ragsdale Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, January 28, at the funeral home, from 4 – 8 PM and again at 10 AM until time of service on Sunday.

As Hubert would say, “cmon Lena let's go to bed so these folks can go home.”
