Ernest Ray Driver

Funeral services for Ernest Ray Driver, age 87 will be conducted Monday, February 1, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Hurricane Cemetery in Coffee County. Visitation with the Driver family will be Sunday, January 31, 2010 starting at 1:00 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Driver passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at Tennessee State Veteran’s Home in Murfreesboro. He was born May 13, 1922 in Bedford County the son of the late Lillard and Ada Teal Driver. Mr. Driver will be fondly remembered forever in our hearts as a devoted husband, father and friend. He enjoyed logging, farming and fishing as well as spending time with his family. He served as a Basic Training Engineer and Carpenter in the U.S Army. While in the Army he did carpenter work such as building bridges, built various types of rough forms for road repair and did all types of general carpenter work. He saw action in Africa, France and Belgium. He was awarded The Purple Heart and Bronze Arrowhead 44 Medals. He was a member of the Wartrace Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Ophelia Ledbetter; son, Ernest Ronald Driver; daughter, Susan Dianne Driver Jacobs; brothers, James, Charles and L.B. Driver and sister, Lucille Downey.
Survivors include three sons, Donnie (Reba) Driver, Wartrace, Kenneth (Kathy)
Driver, Manchester, Jerry (Diane) Driver, Gainesboro; three daughters, Sara (Turley) Reynolds, Manchester, Sandra (Bobby) Cotten, Wartrace, Sybil (Marty) Gilliam, Morrison; brother, Lilliard T. Driver Jr., Wartrace; sisters, Elizabeth Vickers and Aliene Bush both of Shelbyville; 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
